2012年，已獲得二十多項國際發明專利，並長期投入研發惡性腦瘤新藥的林欣榮院長，獲選National Academy of Inventors (NAI)「美國國家發明家學會」發明家院士。九十八名獲獎院士中，有八人為諾貝爾獎得主，林欣榮是臺灣第一位獲此榮銜的大學教授，可說是科學界的「臺灣之光」。
2015年，林欣榮院長以幹細胞治療神經疾病的轉譯醫學研究，與研發標靶新藥治療惡性腦瘤，在國際上獲得高度肯定和推薦，榮獲美國科學促進會(American Association for the Advancement of Science，簡稱AAAS)院士(AAAS Fellow)榮譽，並於2016年2月在美國華盛頓特區舉辦的美國科學促進會年會中接受表揚。
