Spinal cord injury
Spinal cord injury refers to acute traumatic injury invading spinal cord and nerves, causing dysfunction of movement, sensation and bowel movements. After the injury, the peripheral nervous system transmits signals to the limbs, torso and other parts of the body. While nerve cells or neurons repairs itself, there is no mechanism for the central nervous system to regenerate. Currently, there is no effective treatment for spinal cord injury.
